RESULTS: Monday Night Raw June 9, 1997

The Match:
BONG! The Undertaker's Funeral March begins to play and the lights go out! Paul Bearer leads the way down the aisle with the Undertaker and Tyr behind. The Undertaker reaches ringside and raises up the lights, then steps in and awaits his opponent.

Sting comes through the curtain as "The Man Called Sting" fills the arena. He wears red and white tights, and has his face painted up to match. Rick Rude follows behind, keeping his eyes everywhere.

Sting makes his way into the ring, and climbs to the middle rope where he gives an "OOOWWWWWWWWW!" to the crowd! Rude stands at ringside, as Sting hops down from the ropes and stands ready.

The bell sounds! Sting rushes in... and DROPKICKS the Undertaker TO THE MAT!! Sting gets up and starts laying knee drops down on the Taker... then drops a PUNCH to his back!

Sting drops down closer to assault the Undertaker... but is caught around the throat... A CHOKE!! The Undertaker stands up, holding the choke... and the referee gets in between them and breaks it up! The Taker turns and glares at the referee... and is AGAIN DROPKICKED TO THE MAT!!!

JR: Sting looks to be keeping the Taker on the mat! A WISE move!

Sting let's out a HOWL to the fans after he stands up. The Undertaker simply RISES UP and begins to get to his feet!!! Sting reacts quickly... a SINGLE LEG TAKEDOWN into a LEGLOCK!!!

Sting twists it on, releases only long enough to drive his knee into the Undertaker's leg. Sting releases the move... and backs away. He comes charging in to drop a KNEE.... the Undertaker SITS UP!!!! STING CRASHES!!!

The Undertaker pulls Sting up... and whips him into the turnbuckles HARD!! Paul Bearer holds the urn over his head, shaking his head in joy! The Taker stalks in at Sting... and grabs him around the throat again! He pulls him out by the neck... and into a CHOKESLAM!!!!

The Undertaker turns over and sits up... rising up to his feet! The Creatures of the Night CHEER!!!

JR: BUT LOOK AT STING!!! WHAT RESILIENCE!!!

Sting pops up to his feet! He lets out a HOWL, pounding on his chest!!! The Taker turns to face him! Sting charges in.... and BODYSLAMS THE UNDERTAKER!!!

JR: WHAT POWER! I CAN'T BELIEVE HE TRIED THAT... AND MADE IT!!

Sting goes to the top! The Undertaker isn't moving! He's motionless! Lady Tyr calls in to him! Paul Bearer holds out the urn. Sting leaps from the top....the Undertaker isn't going to sit up....

HE GETS HIS LEGS UP!!! Sting comes down on the Taker's knees!!! He rolls off and falls to his back. The Undertaker gets up to one knee, over Sting... and DRIVES a chop down into his face... then ANOTHER!

Sting kicks his leg out and takes out the Undertaker's knee!! The Undertaker drops down TO his knees as Sting gets up and circles behind him. Sting pulls on a FULL NELSON!!! He leans forward with the move, driving the Undertaker to the mat.

Sting releases when the Undertaker is down prone. He grabs his legs.... SCORPION DEATH LOCK!!! He turns him over!!! And SITS BACK!!! Sting's fans start going NUTS!!! THE UNDERTAKER IS IN THE DEATHLOCK!!! The ref dives around to face the Undertaker, to see if he'll submit!!!!

THE UNDERTAKER'S FACE SHOW'S NO PAIN!!!

JR: I don't think the Undertaker is FEELING THE PAIN!! I... I don't BELIEVE IT! I've said that a LOT already!

Sting leans back... but the Undertaker makes no motions to submit! Sting releases the hold, but keeps the Undertaker's legs. He turns the Taker over onto his back.... brings a kick down into the Taker's mid-section...

THEN FLIPS OVER THE TAKER, HOLDING HIS LEGS....

JR: A PINFALL MOVE...

The ref counts... 1... 2... 3...!!!!!

Sting jumps up and howls out at the crowd!!! He jumps from the ring, and he and Rick Rude walk out.

JR: The Undertaker seemed to be a little rusty. Maybe he's RIGHT! Maybe his body IS getting too battered! Well... the Stinger is in his PRIME right now! And he's on his way to the KING OF THE RING!!!

The camera pans across the fans as Tyr, Paul Bearer and the Undertaker make their way out.

JR: Well... I saw an LOD sign out there... that brings us next to Jesse the Body Ventura. Let's see if he has some good news for us.
